When there are so many organizations where you can work with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as a Direct Support Professional, why should you choose OHI? Read what Maine's DSP of the Year, Leah of OHI has to say! My name is Leah McAlpine.
I am the Maine DSP of the year for 2022.
I have been working at OHI for over 28 years.
OHI is a leader in services for people with disabilities in the Greater Bangor community and statewide.
Our professional development team provides all of the training required to become a certified direct support professional.
I've worn many hats over the last 28 years, but being a frontline DSP is the most rewarding job I've ever had.
Every home environment at OHI is also a working team.
Working together as a team allows us to help unique people reach their individual goals.
DSPs help with every part of daily living, not just inside the home but also within their communities.
It is not my job to do things for people but rather to assist them to do as much as possible for themselves.
The best part of my job is providing new opportunities and thinking outside the box.
There is no pattern or recipe to follow, just get to know people and help them participate in a meaningful life.
Come work at OHI, it will change your life (and some one else's) forever.
